Kappa Phi Lambda is an Asian-interest but not Asian-exclusive sorority grounded in the three pillars of sisterhood, service, and cultural diversity. The Psi Chapter of Kappa Phi Lambda at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign was founded on November 12, 2006. Our sisterhood is represented at 30 different university campuses with over 3,600+ sisters nationwide. There's no sisterhood like the Kappa sisterhood!
WE ARE THE PSI CHAPTER OF KAPPA PHI LAMBDA SORORITY, INC.
AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS AT URBANA-CHAMPAIGN
“We, the sisters of the Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority, Incorporated, strive to strengthen Sisterhood amongst women by providing Service and promoting Cultural Diversity to our members and our community, thus securing the bond of kinship for posterity. Kappa Phi Lambda exists to further educate individuals about Pan-Asian culture, while keeping our own identities. We aim for academic excellence, keeping in mind the importance of education and learning as the key to strength, awareness, and fulfillment.”
our three pillars
Over twenty years since its creation, Kappa Phi Lambda now spans across the nation consisting of 3600+ sisters. Our sisters represent a variety of nationalities and ethnicities while working toward common goals. We have travelled far and wide and represent our sorority around the world, and are always seeking to empower women and spread positivity wherever we go. Our large network of loving sisters continues to expand, creating lifelong bonds!
Giving back to the community and supporting local causes is a vital part of what we do and is extremely important to our sisters. The pillar of community service empowers sisters to engage in their local communities and confront tough issues. In Champaign-Urbana, our chapter has been fortunate to be able to support various organizations. Working closely with these organizations has allowed us to gain a better understanding of social issues that affect our society.
Although we are an Asian interest sorority we are by no means Asian-exclusive. Across the nation, our sisters represent over 50 different ethnicities and more than 30 different native languages. Every Spring we hold our largest annual multi-cultural event, Mr. Asian UIUC! In addition to hosting this and other cultural events, our sisters often attend cultural events held by other organizations, upholding the importance of understanding all cultures.
"I joined Kappas not only because of the genuine friendships amongst sisters, but also because of the multitude of leadership opportunities that allows for sisters to grow personally and professionally. The best thing about Kappas is the support that you receive from each other! Kappas is a place where I know that if I'm ever struggling or making significant life decisions, they will always have my back and be there to catch me if I fall."

what Kappas means to us
"Coming from an international background I thought I would have a hard time adjusting to a school so far away; however Kappas has given me a home away from home. I found sisters who had a lot of common interests & values as me. Kappas is also a great base for networking and building leadership with the number of opportunities provided. "
- JI WON SHIN, ALUMNA
"I joined Kappas because I wanted to join an organization of women who empower and inspire each other. When I rushed, I could tell that the sisters were genuinely kind and nice, and I knew then that I wanted to be a part of a unique and special sisterhood. I love that I am able to express myself around the sisters. They accept me for who I am and encourage me to do the things I love. I know that through thick and thin my sisters will always have back."
